DSS Denies Allegations of Raid on NLC Abuja Office The Department of State Services has dismissed reports stating that its operatives raided the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Armed men who appeared to be from the DSS broke into the NLC’s office on Wednesday and stole a number of documents, according to reports.<\/p>\n
The NLC claims that the incident happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. when agents allegedly broke into the Labour House.<\/p>\n
According to Benson Upah, Head of Media and Public Relations at NLC, the attackers ransacked the second-floor bookstore, stealing hundreds of books and other publications.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe invading team claimed that they were searching for seditious materials allegedly used during the #EndBadGovernance protests,\u201d Upah said.<\/p>\n
The NLC, however, noted that it could not immediately ascertain the full extent of the items taken during the raid.<\/p>\n
DSS Spokesperson Peter Afunanya, however, denied the allegation on Thursday, saying the agency was not involved in the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood morning dear friends. Please note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja,\u201d Afunanya said in a brief statement.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the NLC has condemned what it described as an unlawful invasion and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the security operatives from its premises.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Nigeria Labour Congress condemns in its entirety this new low in security operations in Nigeria. The armed security operatives showed no legal documents permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress at the ungodly hour of the night,\u201d the NLC said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The NLC further expressed its dismay by pointing out that the NLC secretariat had never been the target of such an invasion, not even in the dark days of military rule.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
