The University of Benin will restart its activities on August 11, following a temporary shutdown due to student protests.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the university’s public relations officer, Benedicta Ehanire, the administration of the varsity on July 4 ordered all students to leave their dorms immediately and suspended academic operations indefinitely.<\/p>\n

Ademola Bobola, the university’s registrar, stated in a circular issued on Wednesday that classes will resume on Monday and that students should expect to return to their residence halls on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to the registrar, the university administration fixed the problems that caused the shutdown, such as the water and electricity supplies and the remodeling of the residence halls, during the closure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to reopen the university was made by the Senate at its meetings held on July 23 and 24, 2024, in tandem with the position of the Governing Council, critical stakeholders, and after a review of the current atmosphere in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the conditions for resumption, each returning student is required to swear an affidavit of undertaking to be of good conduct while at the university.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe affidavit must contain cardinal points, as captured in the document attached to the circular.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cStudents are expected to upload the sworn affidavit on their Kofa page of the university and submit the hard copy to their departmental course adviser within two weeks of resumption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The varsity registrar issued a warning, stating that students who disobey the instruction risk having their results withheld.<\/p>\n

Bobola expressed confidence that academic activities would resume smoothly and reassured students that all necessary steps had been taken to address the issues that led to the closure.<\/p>\n

The registrar urged students to take note of the resumption date and comply with the conditions to avoid\u00a0any\u00a0penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n
