President Bola Tinubu has instructed security forces to intensify their crackdown on illegal mining activities throughout Nigeria.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

His administration is committed to ensuring that companies involved in mineral exploration prioritize the health and safety of Nigerians and the communities in which they operate.<\/p>\n

This directive came during a meeting in Abuja where the President received a presentation from participants of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 32. The presentation, titled \u201cHarnessing the Mining Industry for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2035,\u201d highlighted the potential of the mining sector to contribute to both national security and economic development.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu praised the thorough research conducted by the NDC participants, acknowledging the depth of their work and its importance in helping the nation diversify its economy. He emphasized the need to address the challenges posed by illegal miners, describing them as scavengers and exploiters who must be stopped to ensure a stable economic environment.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the President expressed concerns about the health risks faced by those living near mining areas.<\/p>\n

He called for the provision of medical facilities and other necessary infrastructure to protect the health and property of local communities.<\/p>\n

Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the NDC, provided an update on the institution\u2019s progress, noting the significant infrastructural improvements made under President Tinubu’s administration.<\/p>\n

He also appealed for support in completing the college\u2019s permanent headquarters in Abuja, which has been under construction since 2010.<\/p>\n

The 111 participants of NDC Course 32, drawn from various Nigerian military branches, police, and government agencies, as well as 19 international participants, have engaged in extensive studies on factors affecting national security and development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
