{"id":142458,"date":"2024-08-10T12:59:39","date_gmt":"2024-08-10T11:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsdigest.ng\/?p=142458"},"modified":"2024-08-10T12:59:39","modified_gmt":"2024-08-10T11:59:39","slug":"osun-irs-to-shut-down-tax-defiant-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepublicpulse.ng\/?p=142458","title":{"rendered":"Osun IRS to shut down tax-defiant businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"selectable-text copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has said it would begin clamping down on business premises that have failed to fulfil their tax obligations to the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The chairman of OIRS, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, during an awareness campaign held in Osogbo to demand compliance from the business owners, said during an event that the government would seal off defaulting business premises by Monday, according to a statement that the agency&#8217;s information officer, Oluwaseun Ayeni, obtained on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Present at the awareness campaign, Adewumi extended a grace period to all tax-defaulting businesses in the state so they could settle their outstanding debts before the enforcement action started.<\/p>\n<p>The statewide enforcement was due by May, according to the OIRS chairman, who was speaking on behalf of the Agency&#8217;s Director of Legal and Enforcement, Mr. Deji Atoyebi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectable-text copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">\u201cThe board of OIRS had concluded plans to begin tax enforcement against defaulters if they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations to the state government<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"read-also\">\n<p class=\"selectable-text copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">\u201cWe therefore advise all tax defaulting businesses in the state to avoid any inconveniences that may arise during the closure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"selectable-text copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">\u201cThe businesses have been served with harmonised demand notices to do the needful before the state would embark on enforcement\/closure to bring the defaulters to book.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"selectable-text copyable-text x15bjb6t x1n2onr6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">\u201cWe admonish those who are yet to be served a harmonized demand notice to go to any OIRS tax station nearest to them or visit\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">www.ecg.ng\/requestosunbill<\/span><span class=\"selectable-text copyable-text\">\u00a0to request for their own immediately,\u201d Adewumi said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He then counseled tax defaulters to pay their bills in order to settle their tax obligations and prevent business disruptions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has said it would begin clamping down on business premises that have failed to fulfil their tax obligations to the government.
