The Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, has confirmed that soldiers were killed in an ambush by terrorists in the Gudu local government area of Sokoto State.<\/p>\n

Major-General Buba stated that Lakurawa terrorists from the Niger Republic were responsible for Friday’s attack in the general Bachaka Kurya Forest area.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, he claimed that while some terrorists were slain, others managed to flee to the Niger Republic.<\/p>\n

Additionally, he revealed that ammunition and weapons had been found on the terrorists.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cOn the 10th of August 2024, at about 2345 hrs, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI encountered an ambush by terrorists at the general area of Bachaka Kurya Forest in Gudu LGA of Sokoto.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ambush occurred close to the border with the Republic of Niger. During the fire fight, several of the terrorists were killed with weapons and ammunition recovered.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe corpses of the killed terrorists revealed that it was perpetrated by a terror group from Niger Republic known a Lakurawa. Sadly, four of our personnel were killed in the encounter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe remaining of the terror group escaped into Niger Republic. Troops are, however, in pursuit to find and destroy the terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Gudu Constituency, Yahaya Gudu, had earlier confirmed the attack to journalists during the weekend.<\/p>\n

Mr Gudu, who described the incident as disheartening, said the terrorists also set ablaze two patrol vehicles of the troops.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it is true. Some gunmen ambushed soldiers on patrol along Kukurau-Bangi Road on Saturday and killed four of them while two others were injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey [the terrorists] also burned the soldiers\u2019 patrol vehicles,\u201d the lawmaker said.<\/p>\n
