Russia announced on Friday that it successfully thwarted a nighttime assault involving 12 US-made missiles targeting the iconic Crimea bridge, which was constructed on the orders of President Vladimir Putin following Moscow’s annexation of the peninsula.<\/p>\n
The Russian defense ministry stated, \u201cAir defenses were used last night to repel a coordinated strike by 12 ATACMS missiles made in the US on the Crimean bridge. All the missiles were destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The bridge, inaugurated by Putin in 2018, links Kerch in Crimea with the Krasnodar region of southern Russia.<\/p>\n
Kyiv has launched several attacks on the Kerch Bridge since Moscow’s military campaign began in February 2022.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Russia\u2019s defense ministry reported earlier on Friday that helicopters had intercepted and destroyed five naval drones approaching Crimea in the Black Sea.<\/p>\n
In June, the Kremlin issued a warning to the United States about potential \u201cconsequences\u201d and summoned the US ambassador after a Ukrainian missile strike on Crimea\u2019s Sevastopol, which Moscow claimed resulted in four fatalities.<\/p>\n
