Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has mandated that only Information and Communications Technology (ICT) staff with certification from the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) will be eligible for promotions within the State Civil Service.<\/p>\n
The CPN, established by Decree No. 49 of 1993, is responsible for overseeing the computing profession in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigeria Computer Society.<\/p>\n
Fubara announced this directive during a dinner for delegates of the 2024 International Conference of the Nigeria Computer Society at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday. <\/p>\n
The announcement was conveyed through a statement by the Governor\u2019s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chulwudi.<\/p>\n
The governor emphasized that the policy is designed to eliminate quackery and advance ICT literacy within the state. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to eliminate quacks and uphold the integrity of the profession. This is crucial for ensuring effective and efficient service delivery in the state,\u201d Fubara stated. <\/p>\n
He assured the President of the Nigeria Computer Society that certified civil servants in ICT roles would receive promotions in alignment with their qualifications. <\/p>\n
Fubara, who has a background in civil service, noted, \u201cWe will support the recognition of this association in our state.<\/p>\n
I understand procedures and am committed to this cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fubara highlighted the success of his administration’s focus on ICT, noting that the state\u2019s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has more than doubled and that the civil service has been fully automated.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur major interest is to improve the state. We are committed to adding value, and the application of technology is central to our achievements. <\/p>\n
