The Ondo State Government has settled a substantial portion of gratuity arrears for local government retirees from 2012 and 2013, disbursing N2 billion within a month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, aims to address the significant backlog of payments inherited by his administration.<\/p>\n

During the payment launch, Aiyedatiwa emphasized that his administration is committed to clearing the arrears and ensuring timely payment of retiree entitlements.<\/p>\n

He noted that the recent disbursement follows a prior payment of N1 billion and is part of a broader strategy to address the extensive backlog that had previously left some retirees without their due benefits, even leading to some passing away before receiving their entitlements.<\/p>\n

The Governor reaffirmed his dedication to improving the welfare of state employees and retirees, stating that the government is focused on maintaining regular salary and pension payments while progressively clearing gratuity arrears.<\/p>\n

He assured retirees that the government\u2019s methodical approach will eventually resolve all outstanding payments.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the Governor\u2019s proactive stance, highlighting the administration\u2019s commitment to easing the retirees’ hardships.<\/p>\n

Takuro noted that recent payments included N1 billion for those who retired in 2012 and N1 billion for those from 2013, with plans to clear remaining arrears in the next year.<\/p>\n

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Chairman in the state, Comrade Johnson Osunyemi, and other officials, including the Ondo State Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Phillips, expressed their gratitude for the Governor\u2019s efforts, acknowledging the significant relief the payments have provided.<\/p>\n
