The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued permits to MTN Communications Nigeria Limited, Golden Penny Power Limited, and others to generate electricity through mini-grid and captive power generation.<\/p>\n

NERC granted nine new off-grid generation licences with a gross capacity of 109.69 megawatts and three new trading licences in the first quarter of 2024, promoting renewable energy and electricity generation.<\/p>\n

MTN received a permit to build four captive generation plants in Lagos with a 15.94MW capacity, while Golden Penny Power Limited got a licence for six off-grid gas plants in four states with a total capacity of 100MW.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
NERC issued permits and registration certificates for mini-grid development, encouraging the use of renewable energy and exclusive service to specific geographical locations.<\/p>\n

The commission certified six Meter Service Providers, including meter installers and manufacturers, to ensure accurate electric energy metering and metering systems.<\/p>\n

NERC issued one regulation and 36 new orders in 2024\/Q1, guiding the activities of licensees and promoting compliance with regulatory requirements.They include NERC\u2013R\u2013001\u20132024 \u2014 Eligible Customer Regulations, 2024; NERC\/2023\/023\u2014NERC\/2023\/033 \u2014 Multi-Year Tariff Order 2024 for the Distribution Companies; and NERC\/2023\/034 \u2014 MYTO 2024 for the Transmission Company of Nigeria Plc.<\/p>\n
