The UK government has reaffirmed its “unwavering” support for Ukraine, responding to concerns raised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who suggested that British backing had “slowed down.”<\/p>\n
Over the weekend, Zelensky emphasized the need for Ukraine’s allies to “truly step up,” reiterating his request for permission to use long-range missiles, provided by Western nations, against targets within Russia.<\/p>\n
In response, a Downing Street spokeswoman stated that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak remains “resolute” in his support for Ukraine, highlighting the UK’s commitment of \u00a33 billion annually to aid its ally.<\/p>\n
While the UK’s position on the use of long-range missiles remains unchanged, the spokeswoman noted that there is an “ongoing dialogue” on the matter.<\/p>\n
Zelensky’s comments come nearly two weeks after Ukraine launched a surprising incursion into Russia’s western border territories, advancing 18 miles into the Kursk region.<\/p>\n
He praised the “bravery” and “resilience” of Ukrainian soldiers but expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of decisive action from Ukraine’s partners.<\/p>\n
Throughout the conflict, which began in 2022, the UK has been one of Ukraine’s leading donors, pledging \u00a312.5 billion, including \u00a37.6 billion in military aid.<\/p>\n
Despite the UK’s firm stance on Ukraine’s right to self-defense, including operations inside Russia, it has maintained restrictions on the use of Storm Shadow missiles within Russian territory.<\/p>\n
Downing Street reiterated its “unwavering” support for Ukraine and the prime minister’s admiration for the courage displayed by Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n
