The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the rescue of 20 medical students and other victims who were abducted in Benue State. <\/p>\n
According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi on Saturday, the victims, held in the Ntunkon forest, ADO Local Government Area, were rescued on Friday by the National Security Adviser\u2019s office without any ransom payment. <\/p>\n
The rescue operation involved three helicopters, with some suspects arrested and others neutralized.<\/p>\n
The medical students and their doctors were kidnapped on August 15 while en route to a medical convention. The statement emphasized, \u201cWithout any ransom paid.<\/p>\n
Contrary to some tweets and unconfirmed stories that some money was paid. No kobo was paid to release them. They were actually rescued tactically and professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had ordered the rescue operation in response to the abduction. <\/p>\n
He condemned the incident as \u201ctruly appalling, callous, and unacceptable\u201d and mobilized significant resources, including tactical units, helicopters, drones, and specialized vehicles.<\/p>\n
Egbetokun stated, \u201cIn a display of unwavering commitment to the rescue, safety, and well-being of the young Nigerians, the IGP has ordered the prompt deployment of a substantial number of human and technical resources to augment the manpower of the Benue State Command and ensure the swift rescue of our beloved students.\u201d<\/p>\n
The IGP also called for public assistance, saying, \u201cThe Nigeria Police Force stands with the victims and their loved ones during this challenging time, and we are committed to ensuring the safe return of the students.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or the FHQ via Pressforabuja@police.gov.ng.<\/p>\n
