The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has refuted claims made in a widely circulated online video regarding the safety of bread sold in Nigerian markets. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The video, which alleged that most bread in the market is failing laboratory tests due to the use of saccharine as a sugar substitute, has been dismissed by the agency.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by NAFDAC\u2019s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency clarified that the claims made in the video do not align with its observations or regulatory stance. <\/p>\n

The agency emphasized that it has not raised concerns about widespread issues with bread failing tests due to saccharine use. <\/p>\n

NAFDAC further explained that the use of saccharine in bread is not permitted under the Nigerian Industrial Standard (NIS) and other global food additive regulations.<\/p>\n

The agency assured the public that all food additives, including sweeteners, undergo rigorous safety assessments before approval. <\/p>\n

Any baker found using unauthorized additives would face appropriate sanctions.<\/p>\n

NAFDAC distanced itself from the video and reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of food products in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
