The Police Service Commission (PSC) has advanced 684 senior officers to higher ranks, following the outcome of its first Plenary Meeting under the new Board.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting, held on August 30, 2024, in Abuja, was chaired by DIG Hashimu Argungu (retired), with notable attendees including DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retired) and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.<\/p>\n

Among the promotions, eight Commissioners of Police were elevated to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, while 15 Deputy Commissioners were promoted to full Commissioners.<\/p>\n

Additionally, 52 Chief Superintendents moved up to Assistant Commissioners, 525 Superintendents were promoted to Chief Superintendents, and 84 Deputy Superintendents advanced to Superintendents.<\/p>\n

The PSC emphasized that these promotions are merit-based, with a formal assessment and examination process now required for senior officers.<\/p>\n

The Commission also highlighted the importance of continuous self-development and knowledge acquisition to equip officers for modern policing challenges.<\/p>\n

The promoted officers have been urged to remain dedicated to their duties, with a particular focus on combating insurgency and banditry. The PSC has assured that promotions will not be delayed for deserving officers, as long as they meet the required criteria.<\/p>\n

The promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police include notable figures such as CP Benneth Igwe of the Federal Capital Territory Command and CP Fayoade Mustapha of the Lagos State Command.<\/p>\n

The newly appointed Commissioners of Police include DCP Innocent Emenari of the Taraba State Command and DCP Betty Otimenyin of Zone 5 Benin, among others.<\/p>\n
