The 91-year-old president\u2019s health had fueled widespread speculation after his absence from the country since on the 4th of September, 2024.<\/p>\n

Some parts of the country are speculating that France is attempting to install Biya\u2019s eldest son, Franck Emmanuel Biya, as his successor, while others believe Cameroon is on the brink of freedom from Biya\u2019s prolonged rule.<\/p>\n
Biya has been Cameroon\u2019s president since November 6, 1982, following his role as prime minister from 1975 to 1982.<\/p>\n
