Concerned KCSF Members Task FG on Ending Power Outage in the North<\/p>\n
The Concerned Members of Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has decried the continuous power outage that rocked the Northern Nigeria for more than a week.<\/p>\n
This is just as the members noted how the prolong absence of electricity continued to undermine the smooth running of many businesses thereby impacting negatively on the socio-economic activities across the region.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the group, Abdullahi Y. Sule (YEDA) disclosed this information in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
He added that, critical sectors including health, education, industry, hospitality and host of others have been bearing the brunt ever since the outage started.<\/p>\n
According Malam YEDA, the time is over ripe for the government to implement all the necessary measures towards tackling this persistent problem.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he noted that the ongoing electricity disruption has severely affected small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are central to Northern Nigeria’s economy.<\/p>\n
“Many businesses, especially in manufacturing, agriculture, and services, have been forced to pause operations, leading to revenue losses, job cuts, and increased production costs. As companies turn to costly generator power to maintain their operations, supply chains have also been disrupted, resulting in shortages of essential goods and contributing to rising prices.<\/p>\n
\u00a0“This disruption has heightened anxiety and stress among citizens as it compromised healthcare delivery, leaving clinics and hospitals struggling to operate without consistent power, which places vulnerable populations, like children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses, at heightened risk.<\/p>\n
“Therefore, we, the Concerned Members of the KCSF have urged both government and power distribution companies to expedite efforts to restore electricity,”\u00a0 said Malam Sule YEDA.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Chairman also called for comprehensive solutions, including enhanced infrastructure repairs and improved oversight from regulatory bodies to prevent future occurrences.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, the group also appealed to the international community for support in Nigeria’s efforts to resolve its power challenges, particularly through investment in renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cA collaborative effort from all stakeholders is essential to ensure a sustainable energy future for Northern Nigeria\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
