CSGGG Lauds NNPCL\u2019s Revival of Warri Refinery, Urges Further Efforts<\/p>\n
The President of the Civil Society Group for Good Governance (CSGGG), Comrade Dominic Ogakwu, has commended the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for its successful revival of the Warri Refinery, located in Delta State.<\/p>\n
This milestone comes shortly after the Port Harcourt Refinery was brought back to operation earlier in December 2024.<\/p>\n
Comrade Ogakwu, in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abuja, described the achievement as a significant step toward bolstering the operations of Nigeria’s oil industry, a sector critical to the nation\u2019s economic development.<\/p>\n
He noted that the leadership of NNPCL, under Malam Mele Kyari, has demonstrated a commitment to revitalizing the country\u2019s refineries, which had been dormant for years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe revival of the Warri Refinery is a welcome development that underscores the dedication and efficiency of the NNPCL-led management team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis achievement, coupled with the recent success at the Port Harcourt Refinery, is a testament to the strategic efforts being made to reposition Nigeria\u2019s oil industry for greater economic benefits.\u201d Comrade Ogakwu stated.<\/p>\n
He, however, urged the NNPCL to sustain this momentum by focusing on the rehabilitation of the remaining public refineries in Kaduna and the second phase of the Port Harcourt Refinery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe importance of ensuring all public refineries are fully operational cannot be overemphasized. This will not only reduce Nigeria\u2019s dependence on imported fuel but also create jobs, improve local production capacity, and strengthen the economy,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Warri Refinery, with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, is expected to enhance domestic fuel production, contributing significantly to meeting local demand and easing pressure on foreign exchange reserves.<\/p>\n
CSGGG reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote good governance and economic growth in Nigeria, urging all stakeholders to collaborate with NNPCL in achieving its vision for a more self-sufficient oil industry.<\/p>\n
Ogakwu concluded by calling on the government to provide the necessary support to NNPCL and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of these advancements.<\/p>\n
