FG Tasks Women on Tapping into Capital Market for Wealth Creation<\/p>\n
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Federal Government has urged Nigerian women to seize investment opportunities in the capital market as a viable pathway to wealth creation.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the official launch of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Podcast in Abuja, the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the financial sector.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Opening opportunities for women in the capital market would create a pathway to wealth creation. We need to come up with more policies, reforms, or frameworks that encourage more women to participate in the financial sector,” she stated.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dr. Uzoka-Anite acknowledged the challenges women face in balancing professional and familial responsibilities but stressed that women are naturally skilled at managing finances.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Women are actually very good with investing; we know what to do with money. We know how to manage money in the house, and it will go around the whole family. If a woman learns how to make that money multiply and how to save it in a way that it will continue to add value and meet her needs and her family\u2019s needs, I think she will love that,” she added.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Minister called for a dual approach to supporting women in the capital market, advocating for both individual empowerment and institutional reforms.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Assisting women in the capital market is a multi-pronged approach. The individuals need to do more to be heard, while institutions must give women a chance and treat them based on their competencies and capacities,” she explained.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She lauded the SEC for launching the podcast, describing it as an innovative platform to enhance financial literacy and market participation among women.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of the SEC, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, underscored the podcast\u2019s role in spreading awareness about the capital market, particularly to remote areas.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“We want people in the most remote parts of this country to be aware of the capital market and how they can participate to create wealth,” he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dr. Uzoka-Anite’s call for action aligns with Nigeria\u2019s broader financial inclusion agenda. As the country pursues its ambitious $1 trillion economy target, increased female participation in the capital market is expected to drive economic transformation and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
