AFRI-CIRD Calls for Increased Govt Investment in Data Mining for Sustainable Development<\/p>\n
The African Centre for Innovative Research and Development (AFRI-CIRD) has called on the Nigerian government to increase investment in data mining and statistical capacity building to enhance sustainable development efforts.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Friday, Mohammed Bello, Chief Executive Officer of AFRI-CIRD, highlighted the critical role of data in measuring progress, identifying gaps, and implementing effective interventions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
\u00a0The organization noted that Nigeria\u2019s current data infrastructure faces significant challenges, including inadequate collection, analysis, and dissemination, which hinder efforts in key areas such as poverty reduction, gender equality, and climate action.<\/p>\n
\u201cData serves as the backbone of informed decision-making. Without reliable data, it becomes difficult to assess development progress and design impactful policies,\u201d said Mohammed Bello.<\/p>\n
Furthermore , Mr. Bello outlined key investment priorities, including strengthening data collection systems, capacity building for personnel, promoting transparency, and leveraging technology such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics.<\/p>\n
AFRI-CIRD urged the government to prioritize these measures to bridge existing data gaps and ensure Nigeria\u2019s progress toward achieving the SDGs.
