G-24 Meeting: Finance Minister pushes for enhanced global backing of economic reforms<\/p>\n
Nigeria\u2019s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, today, delivered the Nation’s Statement at the G-24 Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the 2025 IMF World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n
As G-24’s First Vice-Chair, the Minister highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to implementing key structural reforms, such as eliminating fuel subsidies, unifying foreign exchange rates, and overhauling tax policies.<\/p>\n
He emphasised the administration\u2019s focus on restoring macroeconomic stability and building a more resilient, inclusive economy.<\/p>\n
HM Edun called on the IMF and World Bank to reward reform-minded economies\u2014particularly those in Sub-Saharan Africa\u2014by expanding access to affordable financing and deploying more innovative instruments to support their transitions.<\/p>\n
He welcomed the Global lender’s recent establishment of a third Sub-Saharan Africa Chair and called for the Continent’s increased representation in senior management positions at the Bretton Woods institutions, reiterating that “Nigeria is open for business.”<\/p>\n
The Minister noted however\u00a0 that for reforms to achieve their full potential, “the international community must match our ambition with robust and targeted support.”*<\/p>\n
