Retirees storm PTAD office, demand implementation of N32,000 increment<\/p>\n
Federal Pensioners on Monday stormed the office of the Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD) in Lagos to demand the implementation of the N32,000 pension increment.<\/p>\n
The pensioners, who expressed their grievances, displayed placards with the inscriptions: \u201cPTAD is all about you, stop selection,\u201d \u201cNo N32,000 increment,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n
The Chairman, Coalition of the Federal Pensioners, Lagos chapter, Comrade Mukaila Ogunbote said the non-implementation of the 32,000 increment approved by President Bola Tinubu had pushed many of them on the brink of survival in the country.<\/p>\n
The President had approved the increament last year and ordered the implementation of the \u201clong-overdue pension increases and a minimum pension guarantee,\u201d last Wednesday to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable pensioners under the CPS.<\/p>\n
The President gave the directive after receiving a briefing from Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).<\/p>\n
However, Ogunbote urged the federal government to come to their aid, describing what they received monthly as meagre.<\/p>\n
He accused the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, of having a hand in their predicament, calling he should give them their money.<\/p>\n
The Liaison Officer of PTAD, Cashmir Audu, calmed the nerves of the protesters, saying the President had ordered the payment of N32,000 increment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the civil right of pensioners to protest anytime.We have repeatedly said that the N32,000 was approved last year but unfortunately we don\u2019t have funds,\u201d he said.
