EFCC Grants Tambuwal Bail After Questioning Over Alleged \u20a6189bn Fraud<\/p>\n
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to former Sokoto State Governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, following his interrogation over alleged financial misconduct involving about \u20a6189 billion.<\/p>\n
A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Tambuwal was released after providing investigators with the required information.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has been granted administrative bail. We\u2019ve obtained what we need from him, and he will be leaving our headquarters as soon as his bail conditions are met,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also confirmed the development on Tuesday but declined to offer further details. Tambuwal had honoured the EFCC\u2019s invitation on Monday, arriving at the agency\u2019s Abuja headquarters at 11:16 a.m.<\/p>\n

\nReacting to the development, Labour Party\u2019s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said Nigeria\u2019s anti-graft fight must be transparent and apply equally to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.<\/p>\n
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Obi described Tambuwal\u2019s arrest as a reminder of the \u201cexisting contradiction\u201d in the nation\u2019s corruption fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sincerity of leaders is what is needed to tackle corruption. We need one law that applies to everyone\u2014 not one targeting political opponents or perceived enemies of the government,\u201d Obi said.<\/p>\n
He urged anti-graft agencies to be guided by the rule of law and the principles of evidence, rather than political convenience or preconceptions.<\/p>\n
