Environment Minister Backs Up Development of Environmental Management Institute in Nigeria<\/p>\n
The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has declared the Ministry’s support for the development of Nigeria’s Environmental Management Institute in Bwari Area Council, FCT, Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to Ibrahim Haruna, the Ministry’s Director of Information, Balarabe made the disclosure in his Office while hosting a delegation led by the President\/CEO of the Environmental Management & Disaster Risk Reduction Institute (EMDRRI) Bwari, FCT Abuja<\/p>\n
He urged the institute to ensure that the curriculum is based on practical rather than theoretical aspects, to enable products from the Academy become employers of labour rather than job seekers.<\/p>\n
The Minister commended the Management of EMDRRI for enhancing Environmental Management in Nigeria to complement the *Renewed Hope Agenda* of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration in the Sector.<\/p>\n
Lawal reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the environment through public awareness campaigns on flood management, aimed at mitigating the impact of seasonal flooding that has affected many communities nationwide, as well as implementing the National Circular Economy Roadmap \u2013 a strategic framework designed to promote sustainable resource use, waste reduction, and economic growth through recycling and innovation.<\/p>\n
He assured the institute that the Ministry is committed to creating a resilient and sustainable environment for all Nigerians and remains open to partnerships with organizations like EMDRRI to amplify efforts in environmental protection, climate adaptation, and disaster risk management.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the President \/CEO of EMDRRI, Mr. Stephen Ogboli applauded the Ministry’s proactive efforts in advancing environmental management and sustainability across the country<\/p>\n
He highlighted that their visit was aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration and cross fertilisation of ideas with the Ministry to address pressing environmental challenges in order to promote disaster risk reduction.<\/p>\n
The President who expressed optimism about robust collaboration and partnership with the Ministry, noted that the institute’s expertise in disaster risk reduction and environmental management underscores the potential for joint initiatives to address climate change, pollution, and ecosystem preservation.<\/p>\n
