Gunmen Abduct 17 Boat Passenger in Calabar<\/p>\n
Gunmen suspected to be sea robbers on Thursday hijacked a commercial passenger boat along the Calabar\u2013Oron waterways, abducting 17 passengers.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. near Buoy 34, when the fibre boat, operated by Sea Express Jetty, was intercepted while conveying 30 passengers from Calabar, Cross River State, to Oron in Akwa Ibom.<\/p>\n
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attackers whisked away 17 passengers to an unknown destination, while 13 others were rescued.<\/p>\n
Patrol gunboats, in collaboration with other security agencies, were immediately deployed to the area to track down the assailants and rescue the victims.<\/p>\n
