PENGASSAN suspends strike after FG intervention<\/p>\n
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its nationwide strike against Dangote Petroleum Refinery, following intervention by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
In a Press Conference held today in Abuja, after negotiations with government officials and representatives of the refinery, PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo
\ndisclosed that suspension, which is temporary, aims to allow the process of reinstating the dismissed workers to proceed, as all parties have agreed.<\/p>\n
According to him, the grievance revolves around workers’ fundamental rights to freedom of association and fair pay.<\/p>\n
The strike, which began on Sunday over alleged anti-union practices at the refinery, paralysed parts of Nigeria\u2019s oil and gas operations before Wednesday\u2019s truce.<\/p>\n
Osifo said the union was taking the \u201cmoral high ground\u201d by bowing to government persuasion despite strong doubts about the sincerity of the Dangote Group.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are only suspending, not calling off this strike. If any part of this agreement is broken, we will not give any warning. We will immediately resume our suspended industrial action.\u201d He warned<\/p>\n
The Association’s President stressed that the industrial action was rooted in the fundamental right of workers to freedom of association, insisting that members joined the union \u201cto secure better welfare and fair pay.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
