Police arrest 38-year-old man with 954 suspected explosives in Zamfara<\/p>\n
The Zamfara State Police Command have arrested a 38-year-old man, Mustapha Mohammad, for the unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.<\/p>\n
The arrest was carried out by the Command\u2019s Task Force on Illegal Mining, following credible and actionable intelligence.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the suspect was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla.<\/p>\n
Abubakar said a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials concealed in polyethylene bags.<\/p>\n
The statement said, \u201cOn 27th January, 2026, at about 1615 hours, operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining of the command, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, carried out a successful operation which led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspect, Mustapha Mohammad, aged 38 years, was arrested while driving a Toyota Corolla. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of nine hundred and fifty-four (954) pieces of suspected explosive materials, concealed in polyethene bags.\u201d<\/p>\n
The police disclosed that the recovered materials were suspected to have been intended for use by bandits as improvised explosive devices.<\/p>\n
Police said, \u201cPreliminary investigations indicate that the recovered materials are suspected to have been intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).\u201d<\/p>\n
The police said the suspect is currently in custody, while the exhibits have been secured and handed over to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit for proper analysis and safe keeping.<\/p>\n
“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed analysis,\u201d the police said.<\/p>\n
Abubakar added that investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the materials, as well as to identify and arrest other accomplices linked to the crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurther developments will be communicated as investigation progresses,\u201d the police also said.<\/p>\n
