Kwara reopens schools as security forces hunt bandits<\/p>\n
The Kwara State government has directed the reopening of all schools that were shut down in the southern and northern parts of the state during the period when banditry was rampant.<\/p>\n
A statement by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, and issued by Peter Amogbonjaye, the ministry\u2019s press officer, on Sunday, directed all schools across Kwara State to reopen from Monday.<\/p>\n
The state government said school authorities have been notified of the decision, which came amid continuous security operations to neutralise all threats to the public, including schools.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, \u201cThe government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before.\u201d<\/p>\n
It, however, added that: \u201cEven so, we continue to maintain vigilance.\u201d<\/p>\n
It disclosed that security operations continue to sustain the gains of the past weeks while the government builds community resilience alongside the kinetic efforts.<\/p>\n
In other news, the Federal Government has announced plans to arraign suspects arrested in connection with the recent0 killings in Yelwata, Benue State, on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to a press release issued on Sunday, the suspects, who have been strongly linked to the deadly attacks in the Benue community, will be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The arraignment follows what the government described as a painstaking investigation and close collaboration among relevant security and investigative agencies, which led to the arrest of the suspects.<\/p>\n
The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice assured Nigerians that justice would be diligently pursued in the case, stressing that the prosecution is intended to send a strong warning to all enemies of the country, regardless of the guise under which they operate.<\/p>\n
The Federal Government is determined to ensure that those responsible for the heinous killings are held accountable in accordance with the law,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming the stance of the Tinubu administration, the AGF\u2019s office emphasised that protecting lives and property remains a core responsibility of government, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
