Coalition of CSOs Hails Senator Jarigbe\u2019s Performance in C’River North<\/p>\n
A coalition of civil society organisations under the umbrella of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has commended Senator Agom Jarigbe Jarigbe for what it described as strong legislative performance and impactful constituency interventions in Cross River North Senatorial District.<\/p>\n
The group, comprising over 180 organisations focused on transparency, accountability and good governance, said its position followed an independent assessment of the senator\u2019s activities in the 10th National Assembly. It subsequently passed a vote of confidence in Jarigbe while urging the public and political actors to refrain from spreading unverified allegations and smear campaigns.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, CSGGG addressed reports circulating online alleging that contracts for motorcycles, computing equipment, emergency rice supplies and solar-powered streetlights in parts of Cross River North were awarded to a company linked to the senator and his family. While acknowledging concerns raised by critics over possible conflicts of interest and procurement compliance, the group said Senator Jarigbe has consistently prioritised the welfare of his constituents and dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.<\/p>\n
According to CSGGG, its review found that the senator\u2019s interventions have delivered measurable benefits across Ogoja, Yala, Bekwarra, Obudu and Obanliku local government areas. In the education sector, the group cited the construction, renovation and furnishing of classrooms, staff rooms and modern sanitation facilities in several primary and secondary schools, improving learning conditions for thousands of pupils.<\/p>\n
The statement also highlighted major infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation and construction of key roads linking rural and semi-urban communities, as well as ongoing works on strategic routes such as Ibil\u2013Abakpa, Busangfong and Yahe\u2013Ukelle. Bridges constructed at Ukpagada in Ogoja and Amukwong in Obudu were said to have eased movement and boosted local trade, while over 180 solar-powered and motorised boreholes now provide access to safe drinking water across the district.<\/p>\n
CSGGG further noted that electrification projects, including the installation of 500KVA transformers and solar-powered streetlights, have improved security and economic activities in towns, markets and major roads. In healthcare, the senator was credited with medical outreach programmes, the distribution of equipment to ten primary healthcare centres and the enrolment of 1,000 constituents into the JariCare Health Insurance Scheme.<\/p>\n
Agricultural support through the provision of tractors, fertilisers and hand tillers, alongside youth empowerment initiatives in aquaculture and data management, were also identified as key interventions enhancing productivity and employability. In addition, the group said thousands of constituents have benefited from scholarships, vocational training, laptops for lecturers and students, motorcycles and tricycles for youths and traditional rulers, cash grants for women, and food and financial assistance for vulnerable households. Recreational projects, including an ultra-modern mini stadium in Ogoja and community recreation centres, were also cited as promoting youth engagement and social cohesion.<\/p>\n
Comrade Ogakwu urged citizens and political stakeholders to anchor public discourse on verified facts and development outcomes. \u201cWhile oversight is essential to democracy, it must be fair, balanced and evidence-based. Our assessment confirms tangible results in Senator Jarigbe\u2019s legislative and constituency work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
