\nNAWOJ HAILS WOMEN FOR MASSIVE SOLIDARITY MARCH TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY<\/p>\n
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has applauded the courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment of Nigerian women who marched in solidarity to the National Assembly in support of the Special Seats Bill.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by the Association’s National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, “Today\u2019s historic demonstration is not just a march\u2014it is a movement. It is the loud, united, and unmistakable voice of Nigerian women demanding equity, justice, and fair representation in governance. It is a powerful reminder that democracy cannot thrive when half of its population remains underrepresented<\/p>\n
She highlighted that Nigerian women have made immense contributions to nation-building across sectors for decades, yet their representation in elective offices remains alarmingly low, noting that the Special Seats Bill is not a privilege, but a necessary corrective measure to address systemic imbalance and deepen democratic inclusion.<\/p>\n
“NAWOJ stands shoulder to shoulder with every woman, every ally, and every advocate who has taken a stand for this cause” She said<\/p>\n
Ibrahim who commended the peaceful, organized, and resolute manner in which the march was conducted, stated further that “Your voices have echoed beyond the gates of the National Assembly\u2014they have resonated across the nation.”<\/p>\n
The statement urged lawmakers at the National Assembly to rise above partisan interests and act in the spirit of justice and progress, emphasizimg that the passage of the Special Seats Bill will send a strong message that Nigeria is committed to inclusive governance and the empowerment of women.<\/p>\n
While calling on women to rise together in support of the Bill, Ibrahim said,
\n“To our sisters across the country: keep the flag flying. Let this not be a one-day expression of solidarity, but a sustained movement until victory is achieved. History has shown that every major milestone for women\u2019s rights was won through persistence, unity, and courage. This moment is no different”<\/p>\n
The Chairperson called on all women groups, civil society organizations, professional bodies, and well-meaning Nigerians to continue mobilizing, advocating, and engaging constructively until the Special Seats Bill becomes law.<\/p>\n
