PTDF screens candidates for overseas varsity scholarships<\/p>\n
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has screened candidates across the six geopolitical zones of the country for foreign scholarships to study petroleum-related courses at both master\u2019s and doctoral levels.<\/p>\n
The screening process is a nationwide exercise to select the most suitable beneficiaries to undertake development research and contribute to the nation\u2019s energy sector.<\/p>\n
PTDF, yesterday, screened 681 Master of Science postgraduate degree candidates from the North-West.<\/p>\n
Specifically, the PTDF selection interviews for its 2026\/2027 Overseas Scholarship Scheme were held at the College of Energy Studies in Kaduna.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists during the exercise in Kaduna, the Team Lead for the Overseas Scholarship Scheme, Bashir Ahmed Rufai, said the interviews represented the final stage before the award of scholarships.<\/p>\n
According to Rufai, a total of 38,398 applications were received for MSc and PhD programmes nationwide.<\/p>\n
ALSO, no fewer than 173 candidates selected from various tertiary institutions in the South-East are participating in the 2026\/2027 Overseas Scholarship screening of the PDTF.<\/p>\n
The screening exercise, which runs from April 7 to 17, is being conducted simultaneously across Nigeria\u2019s six geo-political zones and is part of efforts to build local capacity in the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n
Candidates vying for the scholarship opportunity are those enrolled in MSc and PhD programmes at various public institutions.<\/p>\n
Deputy Manager in the Nigerian Content Development Industry Collaboration Department, Afam Ikwuemesi, described the scheme as a strategic initiative aimed at grooming professionals for Nigeria\u2019s energy industry.<\/p>\n
IN the North-East, the Fund shortlisted 266 for Master\u2019s degree and 158 for PhD.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University on Tuesday, the Deputy Manager, Services, College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Sirajo Abdullahi Fari, explained that the process involved three stages: system verification, screening of documents by the personnel of the Fund and vetting by a team of consultants.(Guardian)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
