TCN Boss Pledges Improved Power Delivery in Second Term<\/p>\n

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged a results-driven second term focused on significantly improving bulk power delivery and making the transmission network more viable, reliable, and beneficial for all Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Engr. Abdulaziz made the pledge on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, during his first Town Hall Meeting with staff at the Company’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, following his reappointment by President Bola Tinubu for a second five-year term.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis reappointment is not just a continuation. It is a call to greater responsibility. It is directly aligned with the directive and vision of Mr President under the Renewed Hope Agenda for the power sector,\u201d he said. \u201cThat agenda is clear: to implement practical, measurable, and sustainable reforms that will significantly improve power delivery and ensure that the electricity sector becomes viable, reliable, and beneficial to all Nigerians.\u201d<\/p>\n
Engr. Abdulaziz noted that Nigeria\u2019s transmission network has made measurable, verifiable progress over the past decade, with grid wheeling capacity increasing from about 5,000MW in 2015 to over 8,700MW today. He attributed the expansion to sustained investments in transmission infrastructure, including the addition of multiple power transformers and the completion of several 330kV and 132kV projects nationwide.<\/p>\n
According to him,
\n\u201cDespite frequent public criticism, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has one of the most technically skilled workforces in the power sector, as evidenced by the results we have achieved”<\/p>\n
The MD\/CEO disclosed that through major donor-funded programmes \u2014 including the World Bank Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme, African Development Bank transmission projects, and collaborations with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement \u2014 the company has significantly strengthened grid capacity across several regions.<\/p>\n
He revealed that TCN installed over 82 transformers in 23 months. Notably, 15 units of 300MVA power transformers were deployed across transmission stations including Akangba, Lekki, Alagbon, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Ganmo, Jos, Gombe, Kumbotso, Asaba, Oke Aro, Benin, Alaoji, and Katampe in the second half of 2025 alone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also successfully commissioned multiple high-capacity transformers across substations such as Ajah, Egbin, Enugu, Onitsha, Gombe, Kano, Abuja, Jos, and Benin, strengthening transmission capacity and improving grid reliability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Abdulaziz added that TCN has improved grid stability through targeted interventions, rehabilitation of ageing infrastructure, and enhanced maintenance practices. \u201cOur protection systems have been strengthened, system disturbances have been reduced, and operational coordination across regions has improved significantly,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
The MD\/CEO thanked the management team, union leadership, and staff for their support, dedication, and collaboration in positioning TCN as a leading transmission company, highlighting that the Company’s achievements are \u201cnot accidental but the result of staff hard work, dedication, and resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this new phase, we intend to go a step further. Our goal is simple: to work together as partners in driving the growth, stability, and success of this company. Infrastructure growth must now translate into what matters most to Nigerians \u2014 stable, reliable, and consistent bulk supply of electricity delivered to distribution load centres for onward delivery to their customers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Director, Human Resources & Corporate Services (HR&CS), Mrs. Abiodun Fadahunsi, said the meeting was a platform for management to openly engage and share ideas with staff, noting that the initiative reflects management\u2019s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a critical sector such as power transmission, it is important for staff to remain aligned, informed, and connected to enable us to work as a team to meet evolving industry demands. Every employee has a crucial role to play in the company’s success,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), Engr. Dr. Olugbenga Ajiboye, reiterated the need for commitment from all TCN staff to ensure the administration\u2019s success. The Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Chuks Ochije, assured that management will continue to ensure staff benefits are paid promptly.<\/p>\n
