President Tinubu Honours Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, Reaffirms Commitment to Justice, Equity<\/p>\n
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Dr. Olatunji Braithwaite, describing him as \u201ca resilient voice for justice and beacon of hope\u201d whose legacy continues to shape Nigeria\u2019s legal and political development.<\/p>\n
The President spoke in Abuja at the 10th Anniversary Memorial Lecture in honour of the legal luminary and founder of the Nigeria Advance Party (NAP). He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume<\/p>\n
He noted that Dr. Braithwaite\u2019s lifelong advocacy for social justice, equity, and restructuring aligns closely with the progressive philosophy of the All Progressives Congress and the Renewed Hope Agenda.<\/p>\n
In a statement by Chris Ugwuegbulam, OSGF’s Head of Information and Public Relations, he cited ongoing government initiatives such as conditional cash transfers, rural road development, expanded healthcare for pregnant women, and educational support for underprivileged students as reflections of those ideals.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Dr. Braithwaite were here today, he would have been a major partner in our administration to build the Nigeria of our dreams,\u201d the President stated. \u201cHis founding of the Nigeria Advance Party in 1978 was a bold attempt to reshape our political landscape through progressive ideals aimed at eradicating corruption and promoting social equity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The President also praised Dr. Braithwaite\u2019s intellectual contributions, including _Emancipation of Africa_ and _The Jurisprudence of the Living Oracles_, as well as his role in championing landmark legal victories for Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He highlighted the late statesman\u2019s advocacy at the 2014 National Conference.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Memorial Lecture, Chief Bisi Akande, described Dr. Braithwaite as \u201ca custodian of conscience\u201d and challenged leaders to emulate his principled stance. \u201cNigeria\u2019s challenge is not a lack of intelligence or resources, but a deficit of consistent, principled leadership,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Opeyemi Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, called Dr. Braithwaite \u201cthe conscience of the nation\u201d and urged young Nigerians to embrace his values of honesty, courage, and service. He reaffirmed Lagos State\u2019s commitment to the ideals of justice and good governance.<\/p>\n
Highlights of the event included the presentation of a Presidential Award to President Tinubu by the Tunji Braithwaite Foundation, an award to Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the official launch of Dr. Braithwaite\u2019s biography by Sen. George Akume.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
