NUJ FCT Chair Grace Ike Honoured for Humanitarian Service as Women of Glory Marks 10 Years<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council, Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service, for her contributions to society.<\/p>\n
The award was presented in Abuja on Saturday, 6 June 2026, at a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Women of Glory Foundation. Ike was described by the organisers as the \u201cMost Active Journalistic Mobilizer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Presenting the Award to Ike who was represented by the Council’s Assistant Secretary, Sharon Emephia, the Foundation cited her \u201coutstanding leadership in mobilizing and integrating journalists for proactive national interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the NUJ FCT Chair, Emephia commended the Foundation for a decade of sustained humanitarian impact.
\n\u201cTen years of sustained impact is no small achievement. It reflects resilience, vision, and a deep commitment to service. In a time when many initiatives struggle for continuity, your decade-long journey stands as a testament to purpose-driven leadership,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Emephia conveyed Ike\u2019s appreciation for the recognition.
\n\u201cI receive this honour with gratitude and humility. I see it not just as a personal award but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the NUJ FCT Council and the values we uphold in promoting truth, development and societal progress,\u201d Ike said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Founder of the Association, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi stated that the Foundation was born from personal experience.
\n\u201cAt a very young age, I lost my father. My mother was suddenly left to raise five children with no support system, and in the midst of that struggle my mum endured the heartbreaking loss of two of her children. I watched her fight every day to survive,\u201d Nzewi said.<\/p>\n
Nzewi said she made a promise during those difficult years: \u201cIf God got me through that childhood and I became successful, I would dedicate myself to supporting women in situations like my mother\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n
She thanked partners and supporters for standing with the Foundation over the past decade. “Thank you for believing in our mission and being part of this journey of impact. Join us in making a difference. Your involvement can help change lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Women of Glory Foundation supports widows, elderly women, single mothers, and other vulnerable women through empowerment programs, mentorship, skills training, healthcare support, and faith-based guidance, violence against women and children, and social, health, economic, as well as environmental issues.<\/p>\n
