Nigeria Postpones 5th Global AMR Conference<\/p>\n
The Federal Government has postponed the 5th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), earlier scheduled to hold in Abuja from June 28 to 30, 2026.<\/p>\n
In a statement personally signed on Wednesday,7 June 10, by the
\nCoordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
\nthe government said the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and partners involved in preparations for the conference.<\/p>\n
According to the Minister, a new date for the Conference will be communicated in due course.<\/p>\n
The government expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may cause, while appreciating the continued support of international and domestic partners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe deeply regret any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciate the understanding, support, and continued cooperation of all stakeholders,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
Nigeria also acknowledged the support of the Troika, the Global Leaders Group on AMR, the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR, member states, development partners, civil society organisations, academia and youth networks.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming the nation’s readiness to host the global event, the Minister stated further that preparatory activities would continue under the Local Organising Committee, noting that
\nengagement with stakeholders would be sustained ahead of a new date for the conference.<\/p>\n
\u201cAntimicrobial resistance remains one of the most significant global health challenges of our time, requiring sustained commitment and coordinated action across countries and sectors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The statement also restated Nigeria’s commitment to advancing global collaboration on antimicrobial resistance through the One Health approach, and pledged to welcome delegates once a new date is announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
