Six killed, one injured in fresh terror attacks on Berom communities<\/p>\n
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has condemned the fresh wave of coordinated attacks by armed terrorists which resulted in the deaths of six people.<\/p>\n
The separate attacks on Ta-Hoss, Riyom Local Council and Sabon Layi in Barkin Ladi Local Council on Saturday, July 4, 2026, and Kwi in Riyom in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, also left one woman critically injured.<\/p>\n
The association lamented that the killings are a continuation of the sustained campaign of terror against peaceful Plateau Christian communities, particularly in Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Councils.<\/p>\n
The National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, in a statement yesterday, alleged that at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, armed Fulani terrorists operating from the Fulani settlement in the Bangai axis attacked farmers on their farmland at Rinyan Village in Ta-Hoss Community in Riyom Local Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe attackers killed Mrs Hudung Luka, 40, and critically injured Mrs Ladi Istifanus, 50. Later that same night, terrorists invaded Sabon Layi Community in Barkin Ladi Local Council and brutally murdered Sunday, 25, Benjamin James, 33, and Godwin Yakubu, 27.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, the terrorists struck again, killing Mr Peter Bulus in Kwi Village, Riyom Local Council. These attacks are not isolated incidents but form part of a persistent pattern of violence deliberately targeting innocent civilians, farmers, and rural communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe repeated killings continue to instil fear, displace families, and threaten the livelihoods of the Berom people,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n
It further said that BYM is deeply concerned by recent security intelligence reports indicating that armed Fulani terrorists are allegedly camped in different locations across Plateau State with the objective of launching coordinated attacks on vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n
It pointed out that the disturbing development calls for immediate intelligence-driven security operations to identify, dismantle and neutralise the camps before more innocent lives are lost, urging security agencies to act proactively rather than wait to respond after attacks have occurred.<\/p>\n
BYM extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured victim, stressing that it stands in solidarity with all affected communities during this period of grief.<\/p>\n
The statement added: \u201cBYM calls on the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, the military, the police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and all other security agencies to immediately identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators and their sponsors. The continuous massacre of innocent people must not be allowed to continue with impunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also demand intensified surveillance of identified flashpoints, and decisive action based on available intelligence to forestall further attacks.<\/p>\n
