NUBESS VISITS SGF, SEEKS GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION ON STUDENTS’ WELFARE<\/p>\n
….As Students’ Union Endorses Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid<\/p>\n
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has charged the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) to support the policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration and to promote unity and peace among students.<\/p>\n
Senator Akume gave the charge on Wednesday, 6th August, 2026 in Abuja when he received the Executive members of NUBESS led by their Patron and Executive Secretary\/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Pius Akutah, on a courtesy visit.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to youth development, Senator Akume described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other education-focused initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda as significant relief measures that have enabled thousands of students to pursue their education despite financial challenges.<\/p>\n
He stated that the Federal Government remains committed to empowering young Nigerians through education and other developmental programmes, and would continue to prioritise policies that improve students’ welfare and expand educational opportunities.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by Chris Ugwuegbulam, OSGF’s Head of Information and Public Relations, the visit was to formally endorse President Tinubu’s second-term bid, identify with the SGF, and present some of the pressing challenges confronting Benue students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Senator Akume assured the students that their concerns have been duly noted and pledged the continued support of his Office to initiatives that will advance the welfare of Benue youth. He urged them to remain law-abiding, focus on their studies, and be good ambassadors of the State.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the visit, the National President of NUBESS, Comrade Favour Wandoo Titus, commended Senator Akume for his exemplary leadership and contributions to national development. She described the SGF as a proud son of Benue whose elevation has continued to bring pride and renewed hope to the people of the state.<\/p>\n
She presented a memorandum outlining key challenges facing Benue students to include: delay in payment of bursary and scholarships; insecurity affecting students from the State; and high cost of tuition and accommodation.<\/p>\n
Comrade Titus appealed to the Office of the SGF to use its good offices to facilitate prompt intervention from relevant government agencies and to ensure that Benue students are carried along in federal government programmes and policies.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, the Patron of NUBESS, Dr. Pius Akutah commended the SGF for his longstanding commitment to education, particularly through scholarship schemes and intervention programmes that have benefited many students.<\/p>\n
The students’ union body also presented Senator Akume with an Award of Recognition in appreciation of his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Benue State and Nigeria<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
