It is about productivity. It is about industrialisation. And it is about translating government policies into tangible benefits that Nigerians can see and experience in their everyday lives,” the Minister stated.

He explained that for a Federal Civil Servant, reliable and affordable transportation means less pressure on household income, greater certainty in getting to work, and safer, more dignified movement.
“That is the essence of the reforms we are pursuing — to build a stronger economy and deliver a better life for our people,” Senator Enoh added.

The Minister paid special tribute to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for driving the programme to reality.
“Madam Head of Service, your determination deserves special commendation. As you prepare to conclude your distinguished tenure, there is something particularly meaningful about leaving behind an intervention that will continue serving civil servants every working day. These buses are, in a very real sense, one of your final gifts to the Service you have led,” he said.

Senator Enoh clarified that what was commissioned today is the first instalment of 37 buses out of the 100 electric buses approved under the programme, noting that the acquisition, made possible through the Infrastructure Development Fund, demonstrated the administration’s commitment to translating policy into practical benefits.

He added that each of the modern electric buses can accommodate up to 200 passengers and travel a minimum of 200 kilometres on a full charge.

The Minister also linked the intervention to President Tinubu’s broader industrial vision. He said Nigeria must move from being a market for imported vehicles to becoming a manufacturing hub.
“The President’s vision is that increasingly, the buses, cars, trucks and mobility solutions required by Nigerians should be produced by Nigerian factories, employing Nigerian workers,” he stated.

Senator Enoh commended the
National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC as well as partners, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that economic reforms translate into industries, jobs, infrastructure and tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

He also called on local manufacturers to invest in factories, deepen local content, and build world-class electric vehicles.
“Nigeria must not arrive late to this transition. We must build capacity here. Our goal is for Nigeria to become an automotive manufacturing hub for Africa,” he declared.

In her remarks, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack noted that transport goes beyond moving people from one point to another. For many civil servants, the daily commute shapes their finances, safety, punctuality and ultimately productivity. This intervention is designed to restore time lost to transport challenges, ease the burden on household income, and ensure that workers arrive at their duty posts with dignity and energy to deliver quality service to Nigerians.

She added that these buses represent a visible assurance that Government understands the daily realities of its workforce. The intervention complements other ongoing initiatives for workers including the upward review of the national minimum wage, the wage award following fuel subsidy removal, the digitalisation drive, as well as renewed attention to pensions, promotions and health insurance. Each, she said, reflects the commitment that reform must be felt, not merely announced.

To ensure sustainability, a Special Purpose Vehicle has been established for the proper management, maintenance and long-term operation of the buses. Operations will commence with a pilot phase on selected routes, while the full rollout will follow upon completion of all arrangements. The buses will also be deployed to Federal Secretariats across the States. Routes and schedules will be transparent and responsive to areas of greatest need, with proper provisions for maintenance, safety, cleanliness and monitoring.

She urged the workers to reat the buses as valuable public assets entrusted to their collective care. “They are yours to use, but also yours to protect,” the HCSF stated, while encouraging workers to reciprocate the investment through improved punctuality, productivity and dedication to duty.

Also speaking, the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Osanipin, explained that the vehicles were assembled in Nigeria and designed to meet the country’s unique challenges.

He added that specialised training programmes were also being organised for engineers and technicians to build local capacity for the operation, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of the electric bus fleet.

The event was attended by Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Agencies, Captains of Industry, and senior government officials.

FG GIVES CIVIL SERVANTS TRANSPORT RELIEF WITH 100 ELECTRIC BUSES AS WALSON-JACK BOWS OUT The Federal Government on Wednesday commissioned 100 electric mass transit buses dedicated exclusively to Federal Civil Servants, in a major welfare intervention aimed at easing the cost of commuting for public workers.
