2027 Campaigns Won\u2019t Affect National Assembly\u2019s Legislative Duties, Says Akpabio<\/p>\n
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that activities leading to the 2027 general elections will not distract members of the National Assembly from carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.<\/p>\n
Akpabio gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen at the Presidential wing of the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on his return from Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said electioneering and legislative duties are separate and one will not affect the other.<\/p>\n
He noted that he recently convened a meeting of APC Critical Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, himself and Governor Umo Eno received unanimous endorsement for their return bid in 2027.<\/p>\n
“We are elected for four years and we are going to work for four years. Anybody that is walking on a tight rope must be able to do the balancing act,” Akpabio said.<\/p>\n
“We are politicians and campaigns will start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings.”<\/p>\n
The Senate President added that because lawmakers belong to different political parties, not everyone will be on campaign at the same time.<\/p>\n
“It is not a problem at all. Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament,” he stressed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
