GORONYO PLEDGES STRONGER NIGERIA-EGYPT TIES AS HE RECEIVES OUTGOING, INCOMING EGYPT DEFENCE ATTACH\u00c9S<\/p>\n
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has pledged the nation’s commitment to stronger bilateral relations with Egypt as he received the outgoing and incoming Egyptian Defence Attach\u00e9s to Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Goronyo received Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim, the outgoing Defence Attach\u00e9, and his successor, Colonel Mohamad Mosaad, during a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja on Monday, 8th September 2026.<\/p>\n
The Minister described Nigeria-Egypt relations as cordial and mutually beneficial, noting that both countries share historical and cultural ties.<\/p>\n
He said the partnership between both nations has gained momentum under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with collaboration expanding in trade, agriculture, tourism, security, education and economic development.<\/p>\n
Goronyo stressed the need for African countries to deepen cooperation to harness the continent\u2019s human and natural resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfrica has the population, resources and potential required to compete favourably with other continents. We must leverage our shared strengths for sustainable development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Minister expressed optimism that existing MoUs and agreements between Nigeria and Egypt would continue to deliver tangible benefits to citizens of both countries.<\/p>\n
He commended Colonel Ibrahim for his service and contribution to strengthening Nigeria-Egypt relations, citing his patriotism, discipline and professionalism and welcomed Colonel Mosaad, assuring him of Nigeria\u2019s support to discharge his responsibilities effectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur doors remain open, and we will continue to support one another for the progress of our two countries and for the benefit of humanity,\u201d Goronyo said on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Colonel Ibrahim thanked the Minister and introduced Colonel Mosaad as his successor. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations would be further strengthened.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that Egypt had secured approval for the establishment of a Deputy Defence Attach\u00e9 position in Nigeria, describing it as a sign of the importance Egypt attaches to the relationship.<\/p>\n
Colonel Mosaad, in his response, pledged to deepen cooperation, investment and exchange of capabilities between Nigeria and Egypt. He noted that both countries, as major African nations, have a shared responsibility to advance the continent through stronger partnerships.<\/p>\n
