FCSC Chairman Inspects 2026 Directorate Promotion Exam, Commends CBT Conduct<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the 2026 Directorate Cadre Promotion Examination across the country.<\/p>\n
Olaopa spoke on Monday after inspecting eight examination centres in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to a statement by Ibraheem Zakariyya, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Commission.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that about 5,900 candidates were expected for the exercise, with 5,792 candidates taking the examination so far. He said the exam was decentralised across the six geopolitical zones to make it more accessible and improve administration.<\/p>\n
Prof. Olaopa explained that candidates were distributed across centres in the FCT, South-West, South-East, South-South, North-West, North-East and North-Central. He noted that the FCT recorded the highest number of candidates due to its accessibility to officers from neighbouring states such as Kogi and Niger.<\/p>\n
The Chairman described the adoption of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) as a major step in modernising the promotion examination process, noting that it was easier to administer than the manual system and allowed for standardisation, transparency and efficient assessment.<\/p>\n
He noted that about 97 per cent of candidates reported on time, while cases of late arrival were managed appropriately. Commending candidates for their conduct, he added that only minor operational issues were observed.<\/p>\n
Prof Olaopa acknowledged initial internet connectivity challenges at some centres, but said the Commission provided an alternative candidate identification code that enabled affected candidates to access the examination without prolonged delay.<\/p>\n
He highlighted that provisions were made for candidates with visual and physical challenges, and where special needs were not previously communicated, the Commission worked with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to accommodate them.<\/p>\n
On computer literacy concerns, the Chairman stated further that the CBT platform was designed to be simple and user-friendly, requiring only basic navigation skills and noted that demonstration materials were made available ahead of the exam. He urged civil servants to improve their digital competencies.<\/p>\n
Olaopa reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the promotion process, stressing that career progression must be based on merit, competence and performance.<\/p>\n
While rating the 2025 exercise at about 68 per cent, he said the 2026 exercise had improved significantly to not less than 90 per cent, with logistics, network dependence and question-setting identified as areas for further improvement.<\/p>\n
