Plateau Killings: Gov Mutfwang Imposes Curfew On Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Mangu LGAs<\/p>\n
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on three local government areas over renewed killings and fears of reprisal attacks.<\/p>\n
The affected LGAs are Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu. The curfew restricts movement from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and took effect from Monday, September 21, until further notice(Daily Sun)<\/p>\n
State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, who announced the measure, said it was to enable security agencies to stabilize the affected communities and prevent further breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Plateau State Government has declared an immediate, dusk-to-dawn curfew across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas to maintain public order and curb emerging security threats in the region,\u201d Ramnap stated.<\/p>\n
As part of the new security measures, the government also placed an immediate ban on the use of motorcycles in the three LGAs and directed security operatives to enforce full compliance.<\/p>\n
The action follows fresh attacks across Plateau State where at least nine persons were reportedly killed in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and surrounding communities between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Among the victims were a pastor and other residents said to have been attacked while travelling and on their way to church.<\/p>\n
At Marit Junction in Barkin Ladi, a separate attack left 53-year-old Rev. Andy Samuel dead and another resident injured, according to military sources cited by counter-insurgency publication, Zagazola Makama.<\/p>\n
The report stated that troops who responded to the incident and took the injured victim to the hospital later came under attack. Reinforcements from Sector 8, backed by other security personnel and Nigerian Air Force Super Tucano aircraft, were deployed to repel the attackers.<\/p>\n
The escalating violence has heightened tension and raised concerns of retaliatory attacks, with reports also indicating attacks on Fulani residents.<\/p>\n
The Plateau State Government has appealed to residents of the three affected LGAs to comply with the directive, adjust their commercial, agricultural and personal activities to fit within the allowed hours, and cooperate with security agencies working to restore peace.<\/p>\n
