Akume, Six North-Central APC Governors Endorse Tinubu\/Shettima for Second Term<\/p>\n
Urge stakeholders to respect North-South eight-year power shift principle<\/i><\/p>\n
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and six All Progressives Congress (APC) governors from the North-Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term in 2027.<\/p>\n
The endorsement was formalised at the North-Central Grand Rally and Endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.<\/p>\n
Akume, who is also the Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network for Tinubu\/Shettima 2027, formally proposed President Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the North-Central.<\/p>\n
“By the authority of this great congregation, I, Senator George Akume, hereby propose that the people of the North-Central States meeting here have resolved that, come 2027, our sole candidate is His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. There is no other candidate,” he declared.<\/p>\n
The SGF called for continuity in leadership, urging that President Tinubu be allowed to complete an eight-year tenure in line with the power-rotation understanding reached by political leaders in Kaduna in 1999. He said the arrangement was intended to promote political balance between the North and South.<\/p>\n
Addressing the crowd, Akume described President Tinubu as a leader who combines vision with decisive action. He cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the proposed Badagry-Sokoto Highway as major infrastructure projects capable of unlocking economic opportunities, improving connectivity and stimulating development across the country.<\/p>\n
The SGF also highlighted the administration’s approach to fiscal federalism, noting that increased allocations to states and local governments had strengthened sub-national capacity to address development needs. He said decisions in the financial sector and commitment to major infrastructure reflected a determination to pursue long-term economic transformation.<\/p>\n
On petrol subsidy removal, Akume acknowledged it had long been debated among political leaders and presidential candidates. He described its implementation as requiring political courage and cautioned against campaign promises to reverse the policy without a clear assessment of its economic implications.<\/p>\n
The SGF further pointed to developments in education, including the establishment of additional universities and the introduction of the student loan scheme, as interventions aimed at widening access to tertiary education.<\/p>\n
In his welcome remarks, the Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, declared the resolve of the six APC governors to support the President’s re-election.<\/p>\n
“I, Engr. A.A. Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, hereby second the motion that all the APC Governors of the North-Central States: Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa States, as well as the FCT, support a man who has improved our oil production from less than one million to over 1.8 million barrels per day, who has improved our foreign reserves from less than $20 billion to more than $50 billion, a man who has improved market capitalisation from less than N80 trillion to now N180 trillion, a man who has introduced NELFUND for education, a man who has introduced all the infrastructure you are seeing today, I hereby move for the re-election of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu\/Kashim Shettima for a second tenure,” he said.<\/p>\n
In his address, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe, assured the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, of the North-Central’s unflinching support for President Tinubu, saying he has done what no previous President had done for the region, urging the people of the North-Central to sustain their support for the APC from national to grassroots levels.<\/p>\n
In her remarks, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, conveyed President Tinubu’s goodwill message to the people of the North-Central, highlighting his administration’s commitment to national security, unity and economic prosperity. She referenced his October 1 Independence Day address titled “From Reforms to Prosperity,” noting that the reform agenda was intended to lay the foundation for improved economic conditions.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, the Governor of Imo State and Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, Senator Hope Uzodimma, reaffirmed the commitment of the APC and the Progressive Governors Forum to supporting the people of the North-Central and mobilising support for the President’s re-election in 2027.<\/p>\n
