NWDC to Partner Kano Govt on Rural Development, Unveils Plan for Joint Action<\/p>\n
The Kano State Government has presented its Integrated Sustainability Framework for Rural and Community Development to the North-West Development Commission (NWDC) and sought a strategic partnership for its implementation across underserved communities in the state.<\/p>\n
The framework was presented by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry for Rural and Community Development, Dr. Abdulqadir Abdussalam, during a high-level working visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, at the NWDC headquarters in Kano.<\/p>\n
Dr. Abdussalam explained that the framework was built on five development instruments, including alignment with nine priority United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as critical enablers for human security at the rural level, the National Development Plan, the State Economic Blueprint 2023 and beyond, and a one-year extensive grassroots needs assessment.<\/p>\n
He said the needs assessment covered 44 Local Government Areas and nearly 400 wards and involved traditional institutions, rural populace, youth associations and community stakeholders to identify long-standing infrastructure gaps and community needs.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner noted that the Ministry had prioritised underserved communities with critical deficits and expressed readiness to share data, personnel and community structures with the NWDC to ensure interventions reach the most vulnerable.<\/p>\n
Responding, Professor Ma’aji thanked the delegation and commended the Ministry for its methodical, data-driven approach to rural development.<\/p>\n
He reaffirmed the Commission’s mandate, established under the NWDC Establishment Act 2024 signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to catalyse socio-economic development and tackle poverty, insecurity and infrastructure deficits across the seven North-West states of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.<\/p>\n

The framework you have presented aligns seamlessly with our strategic roadmap. We will partner with you to ensure that rural and community development is brought to our people across the seven states in a sustainable, equitable and impactful manner,\u201d Ma’aji said.<\/p>\n
In a statement by the NWDC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Abdulrashid Safana, the MD\/CEO directed the Commission’s technical team to work with officials of the Ministry to harmonise the needs assessment data with the NWDC’s project pipeline and develop a joint action plan for early implementation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
