The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command on Thursday refuted claims circulating on social media that the Nyanya Divisional Police Headquarters had been burned down.
According to the FCT Police Command, it was actually a container compartment at a checkpoint that was set on fire, not the main division.
The police clarified that while some reports suggested the Nyanya division itself was destroyed, only the checkpoint’s container was affected.
Additionally, an attempt by four suspects to vandalize the Tipper Garage Police Post was thwarted. The suspects, identified as Mathias Jude, Mohammad Ahmed, Abba Jibril, and Mohammad Haruna, have been arrested.
FCT Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh acknowledged residents’ right to protest but condemned the destruction of public or police property.
He warned that any violent protesters caught damaging public property would face legal consequences.
