    Kano Government Eases Curfew Restrictions

The Kano State Government has announced a relaxation of the previously imposed curfew, adjusting it to 8 am to 2 pm, effective immediately.

This update, which aims to enable the public to go about their business and aid in the restoration of peace in the state, was provided in a statement signed by Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Commissioner of Information.

Many see the change as an attempt to make churches more accessible to Christian worshippers.

“Having reviewed the curfew and worried by the situation the people have gotten in as a result of the curfew, His Excellency has directed that the curfew be relaxed now from 8am, tomorrow Sunday, August 4 to 2 pm respectively,” he said.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to the protection of lives and properties of Kano residents.

“The government is concerned about the security of lives and properties, that was why a curfew was imposed for 24 hours.

“This will continue, and the situation will continue to be reviewed. When the security situation improves, the decision will be taken a further review. I hope the people will comply.”

Dantiye claims that the curfew was loosened to allow people to go about their daily lives during that time.

Additionally, the commissioner sent the families of those who lost loved ones the condolences of Abba Yusuf, the state governor.

“The governor extends his condolences to the families of the people that lost their loved ones and those that lost their properties in the few days of protests that was hijacked by hoodlums.”

He also thanked the people for cooperating with the state government as well as complying with the government’s directives.

On Thursday, Governor Yusuf imposed a 24-hour curfew after the nationwide #EndbadGovernance protest turned violent.

The 10-day protest against bad governance and economic hardship kicked off in many states nationwide.

The recently constructed Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park was among the public and private properties that the thugs attacked and looted during the protest. The NCC Industrial Park was also set on fire.

The planned commissioning of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center was set for next week.

A few young people were observed stealing appliances from the center, including chairs, keyboards, and desktop computers.

Approximately 269 suspects were detained, according to the Kano police command, for their roles in the looting of public property during the protest.
