The Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to provide financial grants to support business-oriented youths in the state.
The grants, ranging from N500,000 to N10 million, will be distributed through the upcoming phase of the Ogun Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Programme (OGYES), which is set to be relaunched soon.
This initiative aims to empower unemployed youths and women by offering them the necessary capital to grow their businesses.
In addition to the grants, some youths will also have access to interest-free digital loans.
The governor made these announcements during the Remo International Youth Day event held at Christ Apostolic Grammar School in Iperu-Remo, which focused on the theme of youth innovation in transforming food systems for both human and planetary health.
Governor Abiodun also revealed plans to expand training opportunities for youths in the state.
This includes digital skills training, vocational training in areas such as construction and technical skills, and support for those interested in becoming social media influencers and marketers.
In addition to these efforts, the Ogun Youth Agricultural Programme is set to be introduced, starting in Remoland.
This programme will involve training 2,000 youths every three months in soilless farming techniques, with a goal of training 8,000 youths annually.
The governor emphasized the importance of youth participation in the future prosperity and health of the community, particularly in addressing challenges like climate change, food shortages, and health crises.
He also highlighted the ongoing agricultural activities in the state, mentioning the upcoming rice harvest as an example of the state’s commitment to improving its food systems.
