Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced new measures aimed at addressing the economic difficulties affecting residents.
In an announcement on Thursday, Adeleke said that these measures are designed to tackle issues related to food inflation, fuel prices, and general welfare, reflecting his commitment made during the EndBadGovernance protests.
Following the nationwide demonstrations from August 1 to August 10, 2024, where citizens voiced concerns over hunger and economic hardship, Adeleke pledged to take concrete actions.
He directed state agencies to accelerate the implementation of policies focused on food security, internal security, minimum wage, and fuel affordability.
The Governor’s office detailed that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food Security Action Committee are to start executing plans immediately.
This includes the distribution of essential farm equipment, seeds, and fertilizers.
Additionally, plans are underway for cultivating large areas of land under the Young Agropreneurs Incubation Program, part of a broader ‘Back to Farm’ initiative to support agriculture.
Adeleke also announced plans to enhance youth engagement through the Ministry of Science and Innovation by advancing the State ICT Policy and State Innovation Policy.
He expressed hope that these steps will mitigate the impact of food inflation and improve overall welfare.
Furthermore, Adeleke instructed the State Task Force on Petrol Monitoring to address fuel distribution issues and prevent hoarding.
He called on petrol marketers to refrain from exploiting the situation, stressing the need for their cooperation to alleviate public suffering.
The Governor reaffirmed his dedication to responsive governance and delivering on public demands, asserting that his administration remains focused on serving the people effectively.
