The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the green light for Congo to use the Alphonse Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The qualifier will be played against South Sudan, and it is set for Thursday, September 5.
This development is significant for Congo, as the stadium was previously deemed unsuitable by CAF due to failing to meet the organization’s strict infrastructure and safety criteria.
The ban was lifted following substantial renovations to the stadium, which addressed the concerns raised by CAF inspectors.
The upgrades reportedly focused on improving seating arrangements, enhancing lighting, and implementing necessary safety measures, thus ensuring the venue now meets the standards required for hosting major football events.
Congo’s national team will finally play in front of their home supporters again after previously forfeiting a World Cup qualifier in June and being forced to play in Morocco, where they suffered a heavy defeat.
