The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Basiru Ajibola, has clarified that the upcoming National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings are not intended to oust the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Ajibola’s statement followed a meeting with Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule at the APC headquarters in Abuja.
Ajibola emphasized that the purpose of these meetings is to deliver a stewardship report on Ganduje’s tenure and present an audit report, as outlined by the party’s constitution.
He expressed concern that recent media reports have misinterpreted the meetings’ objectives, suggesting they might be aimed at changing party leadership.
Ganduje, who took over the chairmanship from Abdulahi Adamu in 2023, faces ongoing pressure from the North-Central region, which is seeking the return of the chairmanship position.
His leadership has been challenged by internal conflicts in several state chapters and ongoing legal issues related to his tenure as Kano State governor.
In a related note, Governor Sule urged the party to avoid distractions and focus on upcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo States.
He also highlighted the need to address the party’s challenges in Benue State and reinforced his confidence in Ganduje’s ability to guide the party through these issues.
