FG, Trans Sahara Consortium Partner to Boost Food Security
In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s agricultural sector and ensure food security, the Federal Government has entered a partnership with Trans Sahara Consortium. The collaboration, aimed at revolutionizing soybean and sugar production, aligns with the administration’s broader goal of reducing trade deficits and empowering local farmers.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, disclosed the government’s commitment during a meeting with the Chairman of Trans Sahara Consortium Limited, Senator Ibrahim Turak, in Abuja. The discussion focused on the ambitious soybean and sugarcane projects designed to cover 3 million hectares of soybean cultivation and establish sugarcane processing plants for both domestic use and export.
“The Trans Sahara Consortium’s initiative is a game-changer for Nigeria’s agricultural sector. We are committed to supporting innovative projects that drive economic growth, promote food security, and empower Nigerian farmers,” Edun said.
This partnership is expected to have a profound impact on Nigeria’s agro-industry, with the potential to significantly reduce the country’s reliance on imports, boost local production, and enhance the livelihoods of millions of Nigerian farmers.
The move is a key step toward fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape and securing the nation’s food supply.
The Federal Government’s engagement with Trans Sahara Consortium signals a renewed focus on agriculture as a vital pillar of Nigeria’s economic future.
