Edun Launches Performance Management System to Boost Civil Service Efficiency

In a bid to enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s public service and ensure the country’s development priorities are met, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has launched a new Performance Management System (PMS). The initiative, introduced at a ceremony in his Abuja office, aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP 25) and aims to improve transparency, accountability, and productivity in the civil service.

Speaking during the launch, Mr. Edun emphasized the critical role that an effective public service plays in achieving the government’s policy objectives. He noted that the PMS will foster a culture of excellence and efficiency within the Federal Ministry of Finance, ensuring that the nation’s finances are managed in an open and accountable manner.

“The institutionalization of performance management is essential for boosting productivity and ensuring service delivery across the civil service. It is through this that we can achieve our development priorities and make Nigeria proud,” Edun stated.

The Minister also declared that every Thursday will now be observed as “Performance Management System Day” within the Ministry, encouraging staff to continuously prioritize performance, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, also highlighted the significance of the PMS in her remarks, stating, “The Performance Management System will enable us to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions. Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence.”

Key features of the new PMS include regular performance evaluations, goal setting for departments and individual staff members, and performance-based promotions to reward deserving employees.

The launch of the PMS underscores the Ministry’s commitment to aligning its operations with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at revitalizing the Nigerian economy.
